Task 2
WEATHER and CLIMATE
We can describe the weather by looking at the atmosphere outside. The weather can change very quickly. It may be sunny and a few hours later, it may rain.
Let´s remember some vocabulary words about the weather:
The climate however is different, because the climate changes over a long period of time (years actually). Here, in Castro, our climate is warm and cloudy because we live in the north of Spain and we have long periods of rain, overall in autumn, winter, and spring.
What´s your favourite season? Let's listen to these friends talking about that:
What´s your favourite season of the year: spring, summer, autumn, or winter? Why?
Write one thing you like and another you dislike about each season, e.g. In summer I dislike the rainy days.
People who report and study the weather are called meteorologists. They study the weather patterns using various instruments and then report to us what the weather will be like for that day or week.
Some of the instruments they use are:
-
Thermometer: which is used to measure the temperature.
-
Rain guage: which is used to measure the amount of rain fall in a particular place.
-
Barometer: which is used to measure the pressure in the atmosphere.
-
Wind vane: which tells the direction in which the wind is blowing.
-
Anemometer: which measures wind speed or how fast the wind is blowing.
